<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The features of various statins’ use are analysed taking into consideration their clinical and pharmacological parameters. The present evidence base on atorvastatin and rosuvastatin is emphasised. The author compares various statins in regard to their potential in atherosclerotic plaque reduction, according to intravascular ultrasound data. Substantial benefits of lipid-lowering monotherapy by “new” vs “old” statins are demonstrated.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>статины</kwd><kwd>аторвастатин</kwd><kwd>розувастатин</kwd><kwd>снижение риска осложнений</kwd><kwd>внутрисосудистое ультразвуковое исследование</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>statins</kwd><kwd>atorvastatin</kwd><kwd>rosuvastatin</kwd><kwd>complication risk reduction</kwd><kwd>intravascular ultrasound examination</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Jones P, Kafonek S, Laurora I, et al.
