<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The paper presents the modern views on C-reactive protein (CRP) as a potential risk factor (RF) of atherosclerosis progression. At present, the statement that CRP could be regarded as important as classical RFs (arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, or smoking) remains controversial. However, CRP is a well-known major inflammatory marker, which is recommended for more accurate risk stratification in clinical practice.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>С-реактивный белок</kwd><kwd>атеросклероз</kwd><kwd>воспаление</kwd><kwd>факторы риска</kwd><kwd>прогностическая модель</kwd><kwd>метаболический синдром</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>C-reactive protein</kwd><kwd>atherosclerosis</kwd><kwd>inflammation</kwd><kwd>risk factors</kwd><kwd>prognostic model</kwd><kwd>metabolic syndrome</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">The World Health Report.
